Throughout our apartment you will find small plates and bowls gathering various items: candles, matches, keys, vases, etc. I love putting a saucer underneath a candle to add an additional layer of texture, creating a small moment. In an effort to not appear cluttered I try to be strategic about when and where I use these small additions. Finding function when adding layer underneath something small has been key! I notice that a vignette on our side or entry table feels more put together when I include the right addition of a small plate or bowl. The wonderful thing about this is that sourcing these items is relatively easy! A $3 plate is an easy entry point to creating a moment that is inviting. You might also be surprised to find what you already have in your home. I know I always find something when I look hard enough and get creative. On trips to my grandmother’s house, it can also be fun to check out her drawers and cabinets and hear the story behind where the item came from.
