“Focus on the step in front of you, not the whole staircase.”

As I write this, our fireplace is on and I’m cozied up with a blanket and a cup of coffee. I’m not sure if it gets much better. Fall is here, the cooler weather has rolled in and with it a welcomed season of anticipated rest. Our family has had a whirlwind of change in the last 6 months: surgeries, a pregnancy, a new house, renovations and improvements, new job, and a new city. All positive things pushing us in the right direction, yet at the time we felt the pressure.

I can say that I feel settled now. Our house feels like our own, we are finding a wonderful community and our own rhythm. Being back in the Midwest has also brought with it so many refreshing sighs of relief. We can see family more often and not have to think about getting on an airplane every time. I think we have also determined that we aren’t big city people haha. A smaller town where I can run all my errands in an hour is so awesome.

With this settling feeling I can look back and see how I was consumed by the entirety of our transition and all the components wrapped up in it vs just one step at a time. My nature is to work hard, get it all done and then rest. But this doesn’t necessarily add up to a pleasant ride. There are many lessons our family is walking away with from the last 6 months. And for me, taking things one step at a time will definitely be a priority. Intention and focus is good, finding beauty and peace in each moment is good, letting life imperfections create uniqueness is good.

Hope you all are having a wonderful transition into this beautiful season — we’ve missed fall so much and are enjoying every moment!
