“Home is where you hear love within the stillness.”

Raquel Franco

This week I’m drawn to all things that are rustic and seemingly unfinished. Maybe it is because our home seems to be under constant commotion which leaves unfinished business everywhere? Piles of mail, notebooks open with prayers and ideas, baby socks on the living room chair, a cup of cold coffee on the kitchen table. As an organized and clean person I’m genuinely baffled at how two adults and one infant can create as much “life” as we do in our apartment. I’m also surprised at how okay with it I am! This weekend I caught a small moment of stillness, put my feet up, and I looked around at all the messes that had been created. The unfinished moments throughout our home showed me that we are living here, day in and day out, and not prescribed to perfection and a sterile home. I found a lot of peace in that! The world of social media doesn’t always show the imperfection of living and the unfinished business we all have. I am leaning into designing my home so that these unfinished moments don’t feel out of place: organic accents, vintage pieces, natural stone and wood. As I was pulling images together for today’s post, I was inspired by elements and spaces that looked lived in (imperfect book shelves, laundry on the couch, flour on the kitchen counter tops), rustic, and items that can withstand the daily grind. I came across these traditional Moroccan handmade terracotta Zellige tiles and they might be my new obsession. I’m just in love with the beautiful flaws and irregularities that come with the generational craftsmanship. One day I would love to add these as a backsplash in our kitchen! Wishing you all a moment of stillness in your home and the gift to find beauty in our imperfect messes.
