When we moved into our new apartment, the one thing Andy and I were excited about was the bathroom. It had a few things that were an upgrade from our last place: a closet, as well as drawer and counter space in the vanity. We could now put bath towels and toiletries in a more practical location, store our everyday use items and I wouldn’t make a mess every time I washed my face. However, the bathroom was very standard and the paint color made the space feel smaller than it was.

While making changes to a rental bathroom may seem limited, I wanted to show you all the updates we made:

  • Paint
  • Vanity lighting
  • Hardware
  • Accessories

The Updates

Paint

The paint color we chose was the same color we used throughout the apartment–Behr Spun Cotton, eggshell finish. Our landlord was okay with us painting the walls and so upon her approval we updated the bathroom color as well. PSA: Always make sure your landlord is okay with you updating the paint color before getting started.

Vanity Lighting

Investing and updating lighting is one of my favorite ways to customize a space. The install is relatively easy and you can move the lighting with you. I wanted a brass finish vanity sconce and found a great price on the one we installed. It can be really easy to overspend on lighting. However, keep looking and you are sure to find a great deal!

Hardware

Next to lighting, updating the hardware is my favorite go-to’s for elevating a space. A very quick, low stakes change that can tie the look together. I swapped out the polished chrome finishes for warmer brass tones. The vanity drawer pulls were a great find from Anthropologie. I swapped out the toilet paper holder for one I found on Etsy. And finally, I removed the hand towel holder and added towel hooks from Rejuvenation. If we were staying longer, I would’ve also replaced the faucet for brass. Adding this to the wish list for the next place or our “one day” permanent home.

Accessories

Finally, I took time intentionally picking out the bathroom accessories! The waste basket, bath mat, shower curtain, hand soap, art, and candles.

I couldn’t be happier with how these changes have transformed our bathroom. We have so much more storage than we ever had before, so now it feels like everything has a home. I also love how it now feels like our space with the small custom changes we made. All the sources for our bathroom renovation are on my shop page! I’ve also linked some below.
