I’ve mentioned this before but, crawling into bed at the end of the day one of my favorite things. I snuggle into my soft sheets, reach over, turn the light out and say a prayer that Josie sleeps well! I ensure that before I get into bed that I have everything I need on my nightstand–water, book, prayer cards, pillow spray, hand lotion. There was a period of time when Andy and I didn’t have night stands. Our apartment bedroom was too small to have them and we used a dresser that was already there to put a bedside lamp on it. It was a bit awkward turning out the light at night. Then, we found a pair of matching West Elm night stands on Facebook Marketplace (the ones pictured here)! It was a score.

They aren’t perfect since we would ideally like them to be the same height as our mattress or 2″-4″ higher. But it is such an improvement from not having nightstands at all. Maybe one day we will swap these out and get proper fitted ones.

Besides height–there are the color combinations to have fun with! You no longer need to have two nightstands that match! Be open and mix things up. If you have a painted or upholstered bed, your options are wide open. If your bed is black, wood tones are great, if your bed is wood, try for a painted nightstand.

Storage in a nightstand is a fantastic bonus. You can store all the necessities and have them at arms reach. In your bedroom, try to have at least one of the two nightstands have a storage component. But for less used rooms (guest or a child’s bedroom) you might be able to get away without storage.

As far as styling goes, I love to place a lamp (or sconce like we have in ours), a small plate to catch lotions, and a candle on top with a couple coffee table books or basket on the bottom.
