After a long day of work and mothering my bed is quite literally my favorite place in the world. Crashing into bed and pulling the covers up is the little que that lets me relax and fall asleep. Sleep is at the foundation of my well-being and when sleep goes out the window, unfortunately so does everything else. With all this, I’m a supporter of building the best bed you can and investing in the pieces that will give you a good night’s sleep. I love white bedding–always have and always will. We’ve tried a few different covers and sheets over the years but I’m back to my favorites and wanted to share with you all. Here is a list of how we built our bed from the ground up!
Since moving a few times, I wanted to figure out a way to eliminate some of the big bulky items that are a pain to move. I found out (many of you probably already know this) that you don’t need a box spring if you have the right frame. So out went the big bulky box spring mattress and in came the platform bed frame. It also is a great storage space for our seasonal clothes and broken down moving boxes (yes I save them since I know we will be moving again).
While I would like to work towards not using the space under our bed for storage, at this point it is not feasible. We don’t have a lot of closet space in our apartment which means we need to creatively use all the hidden spaces we can. This simple, linen bedskirt beautifully hides what is currently underneath our bed.
I’ve tried many different sheets, bought expensive ones, inexpensive ones, trendy boutique ones and standard Target ones. I always go for white regardless but I must say, my favorite sheets are the Kirkland Signature 680 Thread Count 6-piece Sheet Set. They are super soft, fit snuggly on our mattress, get better with each wash and are cool to sleep in. For the price and quality, they really are a great deal.
Our duvet cover is soft and clean with a little detailed linen edging. It is perfect for the various seasonal changes we go through in New Orleans. In the winter we can easily add our duvet insert and during summer months we just use the cover. It too has gotten better with each wash!
I’m not someone who wants 500 decorative pillows on my bed, but I will advocate layers. On top of our duvet we have this cloud like quilt. It is probably one of my favoirte pieces on our bed and recommend it to everyone. Andy and I also really like supporting Parachute, where our quilt is from, because they follow social responsibility business practices.
This is the duvet insert we use. This is more of an investment but for a down insert, it is worth it and something we will have for years to come. Andy and I went for the medium weight and it is perfect for winter months.
Our headboard is the perfect place to rest on while reading before gonig to bed. The one we have is a simple linen blend but pulls the whole look together. Prior to this one, we didn’t have a headboard but it’s been worth the addition. It also is not a full bed set so can easily be moved (bonus!).
